True Freedom Begins with Responsibility: A Spiritual-Psychology Awakening

A lot of people have the idea that responsibility is the opposite of freedom. But if we think about it, how can there be any freedom if we are not responsible for ourselves?

Being responsible allows you to have ownership over your life. Which means you can make anything you want with it. It means you have responsibility for the bad things that happen, but you also have the power to change them. But if you’re not responsible for yourself, you are a victim of external circumstances.

Sometimes we are affected by things we have no control over. But even in those situations, we can still choose how to respond, and with that, change our reality.

It is essential to understand that. Because if you’re used to having a victim mentality, you’ll keep trying to convince yourself that responsibility is something bad.

After you internalize that understanding, you should start changing some habits that make you tend to blame others for your circumstances. Here are few tips:

It's often uncomfortable to admit this kind of behavior, But if you want to change, you need to also have ownership of how you think. When you realize you're avoiding responsibility, ask yourself: "Why am I doing this?". Try to understand how your mind operates in those scenarios, that's the first step to taking control over it.
This is something that needs to be developed, and it might take some time. Having no problem-solving skills might be the main reason why you're not taking responsibility for your life. Not being able to solve your problems can make you feel scared and end up blaming anything other than yourself. Practice coming up with solutions to problems and implementing them, you'll get better at it over time.
Remember, you always have a choice. Sometimes it might not be the ideal choice you wanted, but you can always take a step in the right direction. All you got to do is set your intentions in the right way. And then, act accordingly.
I know it can be hard to do something that you're uncomfortable with. But the thing is: by frequently exposing yourself to small amounts of discomfort and pushing through them, you'll get more confident and more tolerant of that stressor. That is essential so you can develop the confidence to own your decisions and have responsibility for your life.
Remember that this is a process, and you won't completely change suddenly. But by implementing new habits you can slowly change how your brain works, and with that, live the life you actually want to live. But you got to develop responsibility to do that.
