The 6 Stages of Personal Transformation

Going through a personal transformation is a beautiful, often cathartic process. It requires you to be totally honest with yourself and consciously aware of your actions.

We can spark into transformation from external sources, such as feedback, comments, or influence from societal ‘events’ such as New Years resolutions. We can also just feel a bit fed up with ourselves. If we keep promising that we will seek help for our anxiety, lose weight or work on our mindset, but we are consistent and committed, we tend to not even trust our own intention anymore. This result ends up with a nagging internal voice urging us to keep trying.

Crucially, in life we go through our own seasons, no two people will be in identical places. So throughout our life, we will end up completing multiple transformations, each time shedding old layers and building new ones.

Human behaviour often means that we want our transformation to be immediate, we want to emerge from the cocoon to a butterfly straight away. However, the hard work and process of the transformation is often a beautiful part of the journey that when we look back on, we really hold on to it and appreciate it.

Taking the time to complete the journey helps to solidify the attributes of the transformation that we have been working on.

Typically, the journey of transformation involves some key stages:

The Realisation: This is the moment where you know a change needs to happen and you begin to envision what you want your life to look like and the evolution you want to take place.

The Release: This is the point where you being to let go of the things that no longer serve you. This could be friendships, relationships, habits, pattern of thoughts and the negative self-doubt that holds you back.

The Rebound: This stage describes the nurturing process of your mind, body and soul as you ease into this next phase and process the changes thus far.

The Reinvention: This is a really enjoyable self-focused phase where you are working to put yourself in alignment with your vision from the first step. During this step you begin to introduce new habits and behaviours that are intentional steppingstones towards that end goal.

The Resurrection: During this stage you’ll feel real change being solidified. You begin to listen and trust your inner voice, and you are working in alignment with it and your vision. Your outlook and mindset have begun to change to look at life with more love and intention, and you desire to make a difference to the immediate world around you. And, hugely, the obstacles that held you back in the past are no longer a problem to you, you rise above them.

The Response: The response stage is where you ask yourself “How can I actively contribute to making a positive impact in my life, and the life of others.” This stage is a firm intention to become a role model for those around you and a positive influence, especially if are able to make an impact on younger generations.

The above process is simply a method to follow to help solidify and implement a sustainable, life-long transformation. It is important for us to remember that change is not linear, you will not just reach the enlightened response stage and stay there. You will find that sometimes you will drop back into other stages as more transformation is called for. At any given time of your life you will be experiencing one or multiple stages at a time, depending on the many aspects of your life; career, relationships, parenthood etc.

Throughout all and any transformations, being intentional about letting go and making changes, and nurturing your mindset are key tools to keep you going.
