Finding Stillness and Soul Connection in the Heart of Lapland (2024)

Nour Fayad

I wanted to share with you the incredible experience my husband and I had during our recent trip to Lapland. It was like stepping into a winter wonderland straight out of a fairytale.

We started our adventure in Kilpisjarvi, a tiny village surrounded by snow-capped mountains and frozen lakes. Picture this: only 120 locals, one mini market, a gas station, and a lone taxi. But what struck us the most was the profound silence that enveloped the village—it was unlike anything we'd ever experienced.

One evening, we decided to take a stroll and found ourselves at the edge of a vast frozen lake. The stillness was overwhelming, almost surreal. We sat down in the middle of that frozen expanse and just... breathed. It was as if time stood still, and all we could hear was the sound of our own hearts beating.

In that moment, we decided to embrace the silence and meditate together. Can you believe it? Fifteen minutes of silent meditation in the freezing cold. But let me tell you, it was one of the most magical experiences of our lives. We felt a connection—not just with each other, but with everything around us. It was like we were part of something much bigger than ourselves.

As we ventured out to try snow activities like skiing and snowmobiling, I couldn't help but marvel at how far we'd come. I used to be terrified of skiing, but something about the crisp Lapland air and the breathtaking scenery gave me the courage to try. And you know what? I did it! And it felt amazing.

Among the exciting adventures and peaceful scenery, I also realized something special about silence. It's not just about not hearing anything; it's like finding a secret place inside ourselves where we can really understand who we are. It's like our souls whisper to us, showing us what truly matters and why we're here in this big world.

The highlight of our trip was the chance to reconnect with each other. Lapland gave us the space and the time to talk, to laugh, and to resolve any unresolved tensions between us. It was like falling in love all over again.

Connecting with our souls means staying loyal to who we are deep down. It's about listening to the wise part of ourselves, even when everything around us is loud and busy. When we embrace this journey within ourselves, we build a strong connection that helps us stay focused on what really matters, even when life gets chaotic.

As we head back home, I can't help but feel grateful for this incredible journey. Lapland taught us the importance of stillness, the beauty of connection, and the power of love. And I hope that wherever you are, you'll take a moment to embrace the silence and connect with the people you love.

Sending you all the warmth, love, and peace.
