What's a simple four-letter word that is considered everyone's companion throughout life?

The answer is Loss.

Loss is an inevitable part of our existence, it will happen sooner or later. And when we think of loss, we often think of the death a loved one. This is indeed the most relevant reason, but loss is much more than that.

So, what are the different types of loss?

  • Relationship breakup
  • Illness/loss of health
  • Change of job
  • Moving to a new house
  • Graduation from school
  • Loss of a physical ability
  • Loss of financial security


Often, the pain of loss can feel overwhelming and you may experience all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions such as:

  • Sleep disturbance
  • Nightmares
  • Distressing thoughts
  • Depressed mood Social isolation
  • Severe anxiety
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Guilt feeling
  • Lack of energy and motivation


Therefore, it is very important to learn how to cope with it so you can be able to move on with your life.

To do so there is no right or wrong way but here are some healthy ways that can help: 

  • Talk to family or friends
  • Seek counseling
  • Read poetry or books
  • Engage in social activities
  • Exercise
  • Eat healthy, good foods
  • Seek spiritual support
  • Take time to relax
  • Be patient with yourself
  • Let yourself feel grief


Dealing with a significant loss can be one of the most difficult times in a person's life. And since everything in life will eventually go away, you must keep in mind that:

So always take care of yourself, seek support, acknowledge your feelings, appreciate things while they last, and do not take anything for granted!
